© 'SWIMMING CROSS THE CUT' Shackleford Banks NC Glicee On Canvas by Jan Peterson
The Story:
I Have Lived In Beaufort, North Carolina for 25 years, and Consider The Outer Banks My Home. The Cape Lookout Lighthouse Is My Diamond Lady, And All Who Spend Time Near Her Feel At Peace In Her Presence Whether Anchored Out Or On Her Beaches. For Years I Have Navigated The Backwaters To Be Near Her Whether To Fish, Clam or Just Enjoy The Serenity of Core Sound and The Atlantic Ocean.
I have spent many days at the Cape, watching (from a distance in my skiff) the Wild Shackleford Banks Horses grazing in the marshes, walking the beaches and even swimming across a cut. The first time I ever saw these horses swimming, I did not realize they could in fact, swim. For such a large animal, they are quite graceful swimmers, even when the tides and currents are side to them. For me, this is always a special site. This painting is special as it is a rare scene.
