The Story:
For 15 years I cruised and traveled through the Bahamas exploring the Out Islands. So many wonderful people I met and sights I saw. The Abacos, Marsh Harbour, Elbow Cay, Green Turtle Cay, Guana Cay, Man O' War Cay, The Exumas, Stocking Island, Nassau, Chub Cay and Southward.
This painting is a view from when the DONNIE VIII would pass our sailboat at anchor in Marsh Harbour on the way to Guana Cay. These ferries are so important to the islands not only carrying Abaco visitors but workers, islanders and school children. Some of my favorite memories are on the ferries traversing from Great Abaco to the out islands of Green Turtle Cay, Guana Cay, Scotland Cay, Man O' War Cay and Elbow Cay. I so love to be amongst the islanders and absorb their ways of being, and to listen to them talk about what matters to them. Their dialect feels like home.
