The Story:
After living full-time in Beaufort NC for 25 years, I have fallen in love with our town, its barrier islands, wild horses, the endless variety of boats which pass through our waterways, our local shrimp boats, our sea life, our bird life and Cape Lookout National Seashore.
This painting is inspired by my love of shrimp boats and the independent fisherman who fish their wooden shrimp boats. At one time, these were all docked at Homer Smiths. Displaced by the modern era of fancy small boats and boat lifts, they all moved to Ted N' Todds close to the big red steel Fulcher Fleet. Each shrimp boat is unique, beautiful and I am thankful for their hard work and fresh catch of shrimp!
