The Story:
After living full-time in Beaufort NC for 25 years, I have fallen in love with our town, its barrier islands, wild horses, the endless variety of boats which pass through our waterways, our local shrimp boats, our sea life, our bird life and Cape Lookout National Seashore. All of my paintings reflect my love for these special and unique local treasures.
This painting is inspired by my many visits to be in the presence of the Cape Lookout Lighthouse and her shores. Whether by beach or boardwalk, when she comes into plain sight, I feel a sense of awe and protection as she stands tall and strong, dressed in her diamonds. I love the sound of walking on the boardwalk and approaching the lighthouse through the long leaf pines. Each board is worn by the salt air and sunshine, and makes a different sound as you make your steps forward. Click Clack. I have arrived!
